Is armageddon going to happen?

armegedon, the war which is said to finish the continuity of the World. There is an oracle like this… Well, in fact oracles are not needed to believe… On the other hand, the world is getting worse... What do you think will happen?

Having had to prevent the world from ending a couple of times, I think I'm an authority here....I actually think the world is getting better, all we gotta do is get these religious fanatics to stop trying to kill everyone they think is an infidel/apostate/godless humanist/mechanical materialist/etc.

...and therefore, deficits *do* matter!

Cheerily,
Buffy

Re: is armegedon going to happen?

the proliferation of democracy has so far tamed nations that would have started armageddon..

as to what could start a war in our current world? not much, not enough nations seem to be bloodthristy or needy of any key resources enough to start an all out world ending war..

there is the middle east, but only recently have they had the power to initiate armageddon but the rest of the world is not likely to start such an event.

then again there is this... http://www.funnyjunk.com/pages/world.htm

Re: is armegedon going to happen?

I guess armaggedon will arrive when th sun becomes a red giant, or when some comets start coming to earth or....

Seriously, I also sometimes wonder where we will get, I don't believe there will ever be an ending (of humanity) war; but seen the catholic fanatics rising with islamic fanatics, I would not exclude a huge religious war.

On the other hand is the world really getting worse? Isn't it that we tend to see (and remember) only the bad things?

Kyoto (for what it counts) has been rectified, threre have been some prper elections in ucraine, Europe can show the Us that even if they are number one they depend as well on europe and so on.

Re: is armegedon going to happen?

There is another aspect of the armegedon issue. There are some sects that feel it is their duty to push armegedon to provide the conditions for the "Second Coming". As they feel that there is no wrong in trashing the planet and bringing the world to war, because this is neccessary to happen to have Jesus come and take them all to paradise....

yeah, i'd like to echo this question...
which sects "feel it is their duty to push armegedon to provide the conditions for the "Second Coming". As they feel that there is no wrong in trashing the planet and bringing the world to war, because this is neccessary to happen to have Jesus come and take them all to paradise.... "
Or were you just teasing?
And how, exactly, do these sects go about 'pushing' Armageddon? Biblically, this is a place, not a thing. It is referred to as the "Battle of..." not as a separate thing. Or are we talking of different things here?

Re: is armegedon going to happen?

i forgot something

bioengineering and food for the masses will eventually lead to revolts..

when people realize there isn't enough food to go around in more well-to-do countries (a few decades hence given adequate population growth in china and the americas).. solutions such as growth hormone therapy on our livestock and mass producing them will become an issue. the greens will not appreciate such measures. (this same issue will occur for power generation but i have faith congress will buckle to pro nuclear sentiment before long and offer adequate incentives to build generation 4 reactors where they are needed and generation 3 reactors where they can be built). think about chickens and pigs, but replace them with cattle in cages with abattoirs attached at the end of the building. calfs at one side and adult cattle engineered to grow rapidly and to be more meat than fat..

other solutions like mainland fisheries (pools of salmon), and engineered crops, similarly modified for rapid growth could cover the american west.. but the problem remains for such stocks how do you feed the stock? raw minerals and water need to be mined to keep the feed potent otherwise your livestock will be sickly and no good to anyone.

so.. yeah a cause for any upcomming surprise armageddon is unlikely to be political, but one we can plan for (against) is world hunger. world war three will be fought with spoons and forks?
