weird thought on sexual drive

maybe some of you out there have noticed how different you think BEFORE you have an orgasm, and after.

it's almost as if there's 2 different people.
i am completely different before and after i have an orgasm.
the things i like are so different
how i think-
there are so many different things, modes.
it's strange.
and it's just our human nature to try to get what we want. at least mine.

I'm not sure what you mean by two different people.
I don't feel like a different person after. I feel like the same person, just incredibly satisfied.

Nemo; Your the man!!. But in all seriousness, I think what Orby is trying to point out, if I'm reading him correctly, is something I also experience after climax. For what ever reason, I find myself wondering, why in the world I just did THAT?? So I'm compelled to do it again just so I can answer that curious question.............Ha,ha,ha...............Infy

Re: weird thought on sexual drive

Ok, you got me thinking, and now I gotta post.

If I were to guess, I'd say the effect is probably physiological instinct taking over, as it were. This would wax and wane with time and *cough* activity, and would be contrasted with and replaced by the cool logic that uses reason rather than impulse.

As a Christian, I'd think this is what Paul was referring to when he spoke of our dual natures being "at war" with each other. Logic and impulse are obviously incompatible modes of thinking. "Flesh" and "spirit" are disharmonious, mutually exclusive, and helplessly stuck together.
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you won't fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, that you may not do the things that you desire. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are obvious, which are: adultery, sexual immorality, uncleanness, lustfulness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousies, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these; of which I forewarn you, even as I also forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”
Galatians 5:16-23
Not trying to say sex is bad, or anything. Just trying to draw contrast between naturalistic impulse which governs the animal kingdom and our priceless gift of logic and reason. It's what this thread reminds me of anyway when speaking of human duality. It also ties into morality in that self-control is born from reason not impulse, and is therefore forced to compete directly with our physiological instincts.

Got to love that surge of Dopamine....The "I've got to have it" neurochemical.

Quote:
Orgasm is the biggest blast of dopamine (legally) available to us.
Orgasms and addictions have two things in common. They both produce an initial pleasurable experience, and both are followed by an unpleasant hangover. “What goes up must come down.” It’s simple biology; body systems must return to balance, or homeostasis. What goes up and down in this case is your dopamine. That can play havoc with your mood and the way in which you perceive your partner. Considering the behaviors associated with high and low dopamine may help explain how one’s lover can do the “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” thing.

Re: weird thought on sexual drive

I've definately felt the whole "why the hell did I feel the need to do that" feeling. Not always, but I do experience it. It's strange. I think that our sex drive gets it's fill at the climax... and then afterwards, you find yourself naked with no sexual desire anymore because it's all been satisfied.... and without that sexual desire, you no longer desire to be in this weird naked position.... and it makes you think twice about what you did. Definately psychological.

And as for the "feeling like a different person" thing... I've felt a little like that before... I think it's mostly just because your desire's shift gears so fast. I hate to be so blunt, but I can't think of any other way to describe the shift in your mental state other than something to the extent of "boobs boobs Boobs! ...*climax*... hungry hungry hungry... mmm, sandwich.... hungry".

I dunno, that's just my take on it. It's weird the way the chemicals in your brain drive you to do such strange things.

Actually, from a biological standpoint, "cool logic" would be a small part of curtailing the "instinctive desires." Just as we release a blast of dopamine, viewed as the "foot on the gas neurochemical", we then immediatly release prolactin, the "foot on the brake neurochemical."

Biology’s mission is now to stop us from screwing around and place our attention elsewhere—like on hunting and gathering, feeding the babies, going to our job, taking out the trash and so forth. Otherwise we’d end up like those rats, working our levers over and over, and doing nothing else.
