New energy source

I stumbled across this while searching the web for 'kinetic energy'. Richard P. Olenick, author of "Beyond the Mechanical Universe: From Electricity to Modern Physics", said this in a review of a new source of energy...

Quote:
The third use of benoullis principle had been achieved which has the potential to place solid matter in continuios motion and to achieve more horse power on the down work path than on the up return path due to the difference in travel time. It does appear you can gain power on the down work path then transmit it to an energy storage device.
Claims it can run non stop after the intial stored energy starts it. A 5000kw generator uses 750kw to run, the remaining 4250kw is stored until needed.

I know this is abroad subject I am just interested in your opinions.

I believe the technology to revolutionize energy as we know it has already been discovered, what do you think?

Re: New energy source

You've mixed two questions here. One is easy: No perpetual motion machines (i.e. those that claim "will work non-stop after the intial stored energy starts it") do not and cannot work, due to the Second law of thermodynamics. There are oodles of threads here at Hypography about this subject: search for "perpetual motion" as a starting point.

On the other hand, there's lots of potential for new energy sources, and its a really interesting topic. Heck, we know that "matter-anti-matter reaction" would be a *great* new energy source, we just don't know where to get a big enough supply of anti-matter!

I can pretty much assure you though that the principle described in your post is not one of them....

Looking under the right rocks,
Buffy

Re: New energy source

I have heard of the "perpetual motion" device, was not impressed.

Ever heard of the dynalever?

Quote:
Richard P. Olenick

“As a physicist, I can say with some expertise that the physics behind the second design, “ (the DYNALEVER,) ”is based on classical mechanics. However, I believe that physicists and engineers should take a new look at the underlying laws and principles pertaining to his technology and devices. I can see no violation of any existing physical laws: the simplicity of his design and the apparent results of the model perhaps opens up new applications of ‘well-understood’ phenomena.”

Oh my. That's one amusing site! I'll take whatever he's having:

Nobody has been able to refute him, I have been watching closely.
The only two people (a physics prof. and a engineer) who reviewed his device are now on his developement team.

I believe we are on the verge of something like this. Some variation of kinetic or classical energy has or will be developed which will change many laws of science.

IMHO It is just a matter of time.

Could I interest you in a bridge in Brooklyn?

Seriously, when you say no one has been able to refute him, according to who? His own site?
New energy sources are wonderful and I will be the first to encourage their research and developement. However, this sounds like snake oil

Good point.

He has posted on his sight a letter from the IRS granted his co. charitable status, as not for profit. Puts alot of doubt in the snake oil verdict. You guys pass very quick judgement based on little data. He has a very interesting view and description of classical mechanics. I never rule out the possibilty anything is possible.

Re: New energy source

I read the testimonials. The Physics professor from the University of Dallas has a reputable background and is the author of a popular physics text book. It is notable that his letters are quite equivocal: he has not seen the device and has only discussed the ideas of this fellow in general. He does say that he can find "no violation of existing physical laws" in the concepts, but does not describe them at all, so its not clear what he's refering to. He apparently vouched for him in the process of obtaining an NSF grant, and then offered his services as a consultant, which is not all that unusual, but is enough to taint his opinion among academics. He also has not lent any support to it since 1995.

The engineer is a legitimate *Acoustical* Engineer who has no expertise in mechanical or electrical engineering or physics. He also has been employed by the company formed by the fellow with the idea.

There are no outside independent critiques, and they would be just about impossible to perform, since virtually no details are presented on the site. Indeed, he's so paranoid about it that in the page that shows little more than a diagram of the "trailer" that his device is constructed on he says:
Quote:
The POINT IS: The EM 5000 will not be re-constructed in one area and left there for any Industrial Espionage, It will be moved, and moved, and only a handful of people will know the exact location of it at any one time for security reasons.

[the genius behind the idea (name removed to protect us all from him getting a higher Google rank)] IS THE ONLY EXPERT, IN THE WORLD, CONCERNING THE OLD SCIENCE and his NEW SCIENCE. PERIOD!
And this is one of the few paragraphs in the whole site that is not at least 50% all caps.

I can't prove it, but he certainly comes across as a raving lunatic.

If you want to donate to him, you're certainly free to do so but both Zythryn's bridge and my own secret project will be much better investments!

Soon parted,
Buffy

Hardly. Anyone can get these: I've gotten one myself for the condominium association I used to live in. The IRS has no problem giving these out, mostly because they love the penalties they can extract from you when you don't pass your audit!

Revenooers,
Buffy

Thanks Buffy I agree with much of what you say, but I'm not looking for investment nor is it being offered. I agree there are few paragraphs in the whole site that is not at least 50% all caps. But how would you expect him to act, he claims to have built the first one in 1964, developed nine more since, forty years of hiding a secret like that would make me act excited or goofy at times.

Any way only time will tell, but I would venture to say the combustion engine will be all but extinct in ten years.
