| Thinking | New energy source I stumbled across this while searching the web for 'kinetic energy'. Richard P. Olenick, author of "Beyond the Mechanical Universe: From Electricity to Modern Physics", said this in a review of a new source of energy... Quote:
I know this is abroad subject I am just interested in your opinions. I believe the technology to revolutionize energy as we know it has already been discovered, what do you think?

| Resident Slayer | Re: New energy source You've mixed two questions here. One is easy: No perpetual motion machines (i.e. those that claim "will work non-stop after the intial stored energy starts it") do not and cannot work, due to the Second law of thermodynamics. There are oodles of threads here at Hypography about this subject: search for "perpetual motion" as a starting point. On the other hand, there's lots of potential for new energy sources, and its a really interesting topic. Heck, we know that "matter-anti-matter reaction" would be a *great* new energy source, we just don't know where to get a big enough supply of anti-matter! I can pretty much assure you though that the principle described in your post is not one of them.... The only two people (a physics prof. and a engineer) who reviewed his device are now on his developement team. I believe we are on the verge of something like this. Some variation of kinetic or classical energy has or will be developed which will change many laws of science. IMHO It is just a matter of time. | ||

Seriously, when you say no one has been able to refute him, according to who? His own site? New energy sources are wonderful and I will be the first to encourage their research and developement. However, this sounds like snake oil ---------------- "Treat the earth well: it was not given to you by your parents; it was loaned to you by your children. He has posted on his sight a letter from the IRS granted his co. charitable status, as not for profit. Puts alot of doubt in the snake oil verdict. You guys pass very quick judgement based on little data. He has a very interesting view and description of classical mechanics. I never rule out the possibilty anything is possible.

| Resident Slayer | Re: New energy source I read the testimonials. The Physics professor from the University of Dallas has a reputable background and is the author of a popular physics text book. It is notable that his letters are quite equivocal: he has not seen the device and has only discussed the ideas of this fellow in general. He does say that he can find "no violation of existing physical laws" in the concepts, but does not describe them at all, so its not clear what he's refering to. He apparently vouched for him in the process of obtaining an NSF grant, and then offered his services as a consultant, which is not all that unusual, but is enough to taint his opinion among academics. He also has not lent any support to it since 1995. The engineer is a legitimate *Acoustical* Engineer who has no expertise in mechanical or electrical engineering or physics. He also has been employed by the company formed by the fellow with the idea. There are no outside independent critiques, and they would be just about impossible to perform, since virtually no details are presented on the site. Indeed, he's so paranoid about it that in the page that shows little more than a diagram of the "trailer" that his device is constructed on he says: Quote:
I can't prove it, but he certainly comes across as a raving lunatic. If you want to donate to him, you're certainly free to do so but both Zythryn's bridge and my own secret project will be much better investments! Any way only time will tell, but I would venture to say the combustion engine will be all but extinct in ten years.
