Turning A Sphere Inside-Out

The following video (about 21 minutes) explains very carefully how a sphere can be turned inside out without making a hole in the sphere and without creating any creases (infinitely tight folds) in the sphere. This is done by first by drawing analogies with circles and then by demonstrating with remarkably detailed animations of spheres, and segments of spheres, in the process of inverting. Worth your time.

We looked at this movie at university. I found it really interesting but alot of people didn't. If your interest, there was a more recent solution of turning a sphere inside out which was revieled in 1998. It is fairly abstract but easily understood. The link is new.math.uiuc.edu/optiverse/

If you are aware of more recent discoveries i would be interested to look at them but i haven't heard of any.

Thanks for the link! I found a number of stills and short videos of the 1998 technique. However, I couldn't make hide nor hair of how they did it.

The version I posted is simple enough that I can still visualize it, and could probably reproduce it if I had to. Maybe.

Wow! I just watched it and I am amazed!
Those animations are top notch and the whole production was presented in a very logical and easy-to-digest manner.

My only peeve is: Where are their equations to back it up?
