A box on a pallet

This morning I saw a commercially labeled box set 'square' on a pallet, and I wondered if it would be a better displacement of the weight if the box were set 'diamond' on the pallet?

I don't know how many slats made up the pallet, nor actual dimentions, but the box did appear to be a square block.

I don't think that the position of the box would affect the weight distribution at all, with regards to the stability of the pallet's structure.

But what is most important here is that boxes would only ever be stacked "square" on a pallet in order to maximize the number of boxes that could fit.

it's all PSI/Kgcm; how much surface area is in contact to spread the force, and what are the addative moments of force vs the strength of the planks in question.
