Maybe he's saying, what does particle spin have to do with how particles interact with one another. Just a quess?

Forces are bosonic, integral spin, and add. Matter is fermionic, half-integral spin, and stacks. State transitions obey (and violate to various degrees, e.g., radioactive isomeric states) selection rules including spin. Spin gets you magnetism.
