The adventure of physics - new version for free download

I wrote this up for all those who are interested in physics. It is just for fun, and
there is no commercial interest in it.

The latest edition of the free Motion Mountain physics text
can be downloaded at

http://www.motionmountain.net

In total, over 1200 pages lead through the whole of physics,
from classical mechanics to relativity, electrodynamics,
thermodynamics, quantum theory, nuclear physics and
unification.

The eighteenth edition adds more about the echolocation
capabilities of bats and humans, describes the puzzle of
Einstein's last birthday present, gives more details on
rainbows, introduces the pearl necklace length contraction
paradox and presents the Einstein-de Haas effect and the
Barnett effect. The text now provides the classification of
rocks, shows how to use the high voltage from a computer
monitor to make things levitate, introduces magnetoreception
and the sensing of electrical fields, explains the Richter
scale for earthquakes, gives an introduction into the
behaviour of solids, liquids and gases at lowes temperatures
and presents the potentially toughest challenge of physics.
Numerous figures, photographs and puzzles have been added.
The section on special relativity and several other chapters
have been improved thoroughly. Over 60 pages of new
material have been added, often triggered by remarks and
suggestions of readers. A warm thank you to all of them.
If you find a boring page, do complain - I'll change it.

Enjoy.

The adventure of physics - new version for free download

The new, nineteenth edition of the free Motion Mountain physics text can now
be downloaded at

http://www.motionmountain.net (put back in again by decision of moderator)

Over 1000 pages lead through the whole of physics, from mechanics to
relativity, electrodynamics, thermodynamics, quantum theory, nuclear physics
and unification.

The nineteenth edition gives details on radiometric dating techniques,
explains how to destroy airplanes with thermometers, shows how to use the same
idea to measure the speed of bullets and that of light, presents a classical
system that obeys the Schroedinger equation, introduces Tesla coils, shows
that space-time has different properties in certain patent offices, tells how
to see effects from atoms using only a lamp and a piece of metal, gives more
details on clouds and jets of astronomic size, shows how to perform a
precision Michelson-Morley experiment, gives the latest results on the Pioneer
anomaly, introduces fusion reactors, demonstrates the chromatic lens errors of
the eye, and presents the simplest unsolved problem about the trefoil knot.

The text also provides improved writing, more figures, more curiosities, many
additional solutions to the challenges, and, thanks to the help of Martin
Elsaesser, the first embedded animation. Many thanks also to all those
readers who have suggested improvements and material for the text. An errata
page that allows direct feedback via the website is now available.

Enjoy.

Reminds me of the popular show on Discovery, Mythbusters.
Well, not Mythbusters, actually. More like the sequel - SPAMBUSTERS!!!

Re: The adventure of physics - new version for free download

A pity that this time the link was taken out.
In the past, the forum had a different
policy. (Just search for motionmountain and look up
when I joined the forum.)
I post a message about my motion mountain physics text
every 6 months or so; it is a pity that some people
cannot imagine that this is not spam.

Besides, there is more information about me
on the motionmountain website.

Frankly you could have posted this in your old thread.

I find it amusing how many people take the time to post negetive little tid bits that taint the atmosphere of this forum instead of just ignoring these things.

I suppose one could imagine that this person is taking the time to post on several forums about this helpful link he has shared and does not want to bother with introductions, or has no intent of being an active member.

you have to understand that we get a lot of this - sometimes it can be hard to seperate the genuine from the rest.
