Is the entire system under the affect of gravity (I know you said gravity is not moving the sphere). If so and you can do it accurately enough, weigh portions of the box and find out where gravity is having the biggest effect.
Or, since the ball is moving faster than sound, can you measure the air compression wave's (sonic boom) affect on the different walls of the box?
