Question A disturbing trend?

what does it mean that our society is embracing depravity to the point where celebrities are turning to scandal to self promote?

canadians embracing homosexual unions, the increase in the divorce rates in developed contries, abortions, the unending growth of the adult industry past the profitability of mainstream movie entertainment.

and specific personal scandals, cameron, madonna, pamela, paris, amoung others.

they've turned to the otherwise vulgar and perhaps career ending adult entertainment world to promote themselves.

also what about adult stars crossing over into respectability?

have we forgotten all of our morales? is it ok for these people to dip a toe into immorality in order to gain some fame but not suffer an implosion in their mainstream careers?

i have to say the meteoric rise of paris hilton (who i liken to a modern princess Di) is one of the most perplexing instances of this new trend. indeed she did test her mainstream appeal and it did well and her "video" could have been a mistake, however the "One night in Paris" simply can't be regarded as a mistake. then she stars in mainstream advertising campaigns.. sex sells. if it weren't for the wars i'd think advertisers are aiming for another baby boom?

Smile Re: A disturbing trend?

Every generation seems to think things are going to hell in a handbasket. I've actually said that I pity the current generation of kids because they're going to have a hard time to be more outrageous than those of us who grew up in the 60s, 70s and 80s. It always seems that all this stuff is totally overblown: the "out of control" Flappers of the 20s had kids and became the Ward and June Cleaver's of the 50's. Go figure. History has its cycles, but things do progress:

I think its facinating that your post is all about sex. I for one am hopeful that these episodes of outrageousness will help the realization that sex is a *LOT* better for people than violence or drugs, something we have a major problem with: any kid could go in and buy a copy of Grand Theft Auto and spend hours stealing and killing, but oh, my, when they found out it had *sex* in it, well, we have to *ban* that!!!

Get a box of condoms and go at it kids. Its way better than shooting each other or stealing stuff.

Contrarily,
Buffy

Male puberty and female menarch occur at 12 years of age and earlier due to superior nutrition. A society would be individually and collectively insane to demand those twitching genitalia remain celibate for the next 7-10 years. There should be a brothel on every high school and college campus. Nothing is hornier than a teenage male. The female staff had best be able to open Nehi bottles with their happy places - they will be ridden like the Pony Express throughout the day.

How many mounts/day will satisfy a lusting teenage male? Given the Coolidge Effect, 3-5. THAT is what idiot Christian Fundies seek to bottle up. Ha! Boys will do it to themselves, do it to each other, do it with girls, do it with anything at least the size of a chicken, do it with in animate objects. The only question is whether you want homosexuals or heterosexuals when it is all over. Right now we are quite successfully training queers.

See? That's what I'm talking about when I give him his deserving award: Uncle Al is *never* wrong and his logic is always flawless...

Cheers!

Very true, very true UncleAl. I got to hand it to you, without any fear of the politically correctness crowd, you have spoken wisely and courageously. I just hope the gay membership at Hypography doesn't decide to attack you all at once. But on the other hand, I think your tough enough to deal with it........Your the man Uncle, your the man.

I thought UncaAl had his tongue firmly in cheek on that one: he's always lookin' for ways to bait the fundies....

Do we even have any out gay folk here? I'm just like Grace, all my friends seem to be gay guys (although I've never had one as a roommate)...

Cheers,
Buffy
