Adolescent fascination

Why are humans so fascinated by seemingly adolescent topics and concepts?

I mean, why is a fart so funny?
Why can you not help but laugh at the term booger?
Why am I so captivated by a beautiful pair of breasts?
How can I fall so far into the eyes of a beautiful woman, as if they were black holes?
Why are the stars so intriguing?

Is it just some relic of our development, or is there something more to it all?

Talking Re: Adolescent fascination

To paraphrase Aristophenes in a gender inclusive form, "adults are children writ big." It does give some hope that not everyones' inner child is absent.

Also -

Is there anything in the world that isn't ultimately about sex and/or violence?

I ask because I find myself enjoying ice dancing immensely. Which is certainly adolescent.

Re: Adolescent fascination

I don't know.

Kids are high,
SO high, my friends.

I lost my curiosity for EVERYTHING when I struggled to be something DIFFERENT! I still had passions, But around 12 I began to "lose my innocence"
and no longer played with legos.

A few years of smoking herb brought me back though,
I feel like a child again
Just with a lot more knowledge.
So fascinated and in awe.
So strange and bi-polar.
It's fun now that I can think for myself,
Curiosity within selections.

It is wierd that on a very fundamental level we are curious about how the universe works and I think that everyone is, but most people dont think they are smart enough to contribute to these discussions so instead of learning they remain ignorant..
What purpose does it serve for us to be curious? If curiosity really killed the cat then I guess we are in even bigger trouble

Re: Adolescent fascination

whew.
The Title of this thread had me thinking it was about kiddy porn, or Jail Bait.

I think we all remember our adolescence with fondness. (unless you had a crappy, abusive upbringing)
We didn't have to work or pay bills.
Its a time of extreme insecurity, selfishness, and exploration.

High school is like the best years.
You're young, you don't think about mortality.
All the experiences are so new and vivid.
The first time you got laid, drunk, or stoned. The crush you had on that girl. The desire to be popular.

Tons of psychological research has been done on this.
By the time you're 21 or so, your personality is pretty much set.

Re: Adolescent fascination

um...
high school was probably the worst time of my life.
I dropped out when I started to really THINK
(the high schools in Manatee County, FL are menacing.
redneck Kids have nooses on their keychains...)

steven hawkings "a brief history of time" was the key that opened up that first door.
How ironic-
It was a "summer reading book"

anyways...

Re: Adolescent fascination

Well thats just too damn bad Orby!

High school was great for me, even though I wasn't great!

It is a time of serious psychological repercussions.
Deal with it...
