| Explaining | What form of government would you install? If you owned the company that created the first massive space environment (controlling interest at least), what form of government would you install, if any? Assume a population of 10,000 to 500,000 people. Assume you had plans on building more of these structures, and did not want to be bogged down with the administrative overhead of running each facility. Assume that you as the owner only require from the government that they pay you for space and services to keep the station running. Assume that you as owner will have the final say in the form of government installed. ---------------- Thank goodness science is based on "survival of the fittest" rather than being a Democracy! | Politically Incorrect | Re: What form of government would you install? The key to this is to hire people who are smarter than you. Its what successful CEO's do. Let these guys do the brain/number crunching, while you stay out of the way for the most part. You are a figure head. And so long as you praise the wonderful accomplishments publicly, and keep punishments low key, you will be seen as a Great Leader. This sounds like a Boardroom type of government. Somewhat democratic, yet you are the final veto. The ancient wisdom of the Tao Te Ching demonstrates how to be a leader the people will love and respect. Hopefully, on a space colony, the people choosing to go are intelligent and mentally stable...And realize the need for co-operation. ![]() Your speaking of running the space station, and I am speaking of the people on the stations. Hire the smart people to run the station, get supplies, do maintenance, modulate power and life support etc. But what form of government would you enforce or allow for the people that live and work there? ---------------- Thank goodness science is based on "survival of the fittest" rather than being a Democracy! It would be run like a company. Totalitarianism basically, for the majority of workers. The top decisions would be made by you and your "Generals" So, a Military Type of Structure. At least for completing the "ground work" and laying down the foundations for space travel . (outposts, and moon stations, and the like.) ---------------- There is Truth in Wine and Children | ||

| Explaining | Re: What form of government would you install? So you favor this type of system? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corporatism Remember, as owner, you may or may not have any interest in what the people do, so long as you get paid. As the station is not built in any particular country, you are not bound by georaphic location either. ---------------- Thank goodness science is based on "survival of the fittest" rather than being a Democracy! | Curious | Re: What form of government would you install? Considering for a moment that I was a capitalist and owned a company with the resources to create the space station then institute a new government... I would offer educational literature on all forms of government and all ways to run and structure a society. Given enough resources and time a popular vote would follow. I, as owner of the facility would give up my 'power' of veto and allow the society to run itself. Still being a capitalist I would then like to be monetarily rewared for the facility and any services I would offer. If it was within my belief to have any absolute control over another individual(s) I would demand and institute some form of libertarian socialism. The details of which the populace would vote for democratically in an instant-runoff style. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertarian_socialism Last edited by Uriah; 04-28-2006 at 10:01 AM. | |

I guess it begs the question, what would the residents pay the owner with? ---------------- Thank goodness science is based on "survival of the fittest" rather than being a Democracy! Buffy Evolution is a hoot if you are one of the survivors. UncleAl | |||

| Game Designer | Re: What form of government would you install? I would try out the system of governance that I have been working on for some time. It is a combination of external capitalism, internal libertarian socialism. For the Economic portion. For the Social portion It would be something like a mix of Democracy, Compartmentalized Stakeholding-Shareholding/Corporate Hierarchy, Anarcho-syndicalism, Technocratic-syndicalism, and parlimentry system. What this amounts to is groups of people, most likely of similar interest working towards (collectively or independently) furthering their sub-agendas. The System of government would be constructed on a few bases. Of which the elements for the meta-generation system are: Game theory, Theory of Constraints, Seperation of powers, Iterative Functional Formal System Design and Flow Though these are some of the essential elements that contribute to the design of the system, they are not the only or even most of the elements. ---------------- "Anymore I am only interested in pets whom can make me coffee." -My Mom Hyper Physics Hyper Math Wikipedia Member of: IGDA YouTube MySpace Wikipedia:KickAssClown The Forge | |
