| Politically Incorrect | What makes something symbolic? We consciously and unconsciouly process 'symbols' and the power of symbols everyday. What is a symbol? .. you might say the Statue of Liberty, is a symbol of American assimilation and a beacon of hope. But what about everyday symbols?. Lets take the chair for example. There are millions and millions of chairs out there, but yet it is an unconscious symbol; and not merely functional furniture. A chair represents your status. If you ever go into the bosses office, you will notice the difference in the chairs. The Bosses chair is better than the chairs you will sit in. Its leather and more comfortable. A King's throne is a giant plush chair. Aside from obvious signs of social stature of the car and a home, what are other symbols that you can think of that affect the way we think about things and people?? Symbols that represent something else to our psyche ? ![]() ---------------- There is Truth in Wine and Children Last edited by Racoon; 12-11-2006 at 06:39 PM. | |
