Where does respnsibility stop

Already in thread on saddams hanging people said "it is not up to us to judge the iraqi's government decisions". Now I just heard in the radio that while the EU and even Russia strongly criticizes the recent executions, the US-government said something like "the iraq's government decision don't regard us, we respect their democracy and don't judge".
Now, I don't understand how someone can argue that. It would be ok, if Iraq would be a country that autonomously evoluted to democracy, but in this case why take no position? The US invaded the country, brought the dictator to fall and put the country into a huge chaos and now they say (or better the US government says) we do not have to judge their decisions...where is the responsibility?
And even worse why can't the US see that hanging the old oppressors will make it even harder to stabilize Iraq...it seems so evident to me.

Re: Where does respnsibility stop

A bit like having a structure made out of blocks, then removing 60% of the blocks which compose the foundation. Why would you blame the builder/architect when the building falls instead of recognizing your role in it from rearranging the blocks?

Curious my country's stance on this. Curious indeed.

Re: Where does respnsibility stop

I suspect that most of the administration supports the execution on ideological grounds, but they know that they cannot openly support it for international public relations reasons - we can't appear to have been too involved with this trial.

Re: Where does respnsibility stop

Well, I think the latest speech by President Bush, where he threatens to take action against the Iraqi government if they fail to adopt democratic rules, sort of says it all. The US government will be involved when they think involvement favors their image.

Re: Where does respnsibility stop

Wat is quite sad....

And showing some minimal understanding of consequences would do good to their image....
