How difficult is quitting smoking?

Hi there,

Anyone here an ex smoker? Anyone got any comparisons to how difficult it is to quit to something else similairly as difficult? Is it harder than starving yourself for a few days?

How difficult it is for you to quit smoking depends on how difficult it is for you to make a decision.

It seems to me that people tend to prefer to believe what they want to be real or true, despite evidence to the contrary.

When what you believe is refuted by evidence, you are faced with a choice.

Im sure it would differ from person to person, the length of time they have been smoking would also be a factor.

Re: How difficult is quitting smoking?

FWIW, I quit smoking nearly 7 years ago after having smoked for 25 years. I still have the cravings but I've simply learned to live with them. This is why smokers that have quit for days, months or even years slip back into the habit. It is a difficult addiction to face and only the persistent will win.

It is not easy.
It depends a bit on how addictive a personality/genes you have.
Some say it is as hard as giving up heroin.

I found the best thing was Cold Turkey. You also need strong motivation; Do it for your family.

In Australia they have phone help lines to support those quiting

Some people find nicotine gum helpful but then get addicted to that.

I found a big dose of Ginseng helpful as it also jags the adrenals (About 3 tea bag/ Korean instant tea? 3g x3 whenever the urge hits you)

It's not pleasant, but you will be successful when you decide that you WANT to quite.
