[Q] Question about a VERY old news post.

I remember an article from back in 2005-2006 about scientists conducting an experiment and "creating" life in a simulated environment of what they expected the Earth may have been like when life first came about... C1ay, I think you're the one who posted it. I've tried searching and looking for it myself (and I am continuing to look for it) but if anyone can help me out, please do. This was one of the first articles posted. PS Yeah I'm an old school vet. Sup Tormod, C1ay, Buffy, Turtle...etc <3

[Q] Smoke rings

Watching a Western on the TV recently, I noticed that when some gunpowder exploded, it created a gigantic smoke ring, where the inside poured up and outwards, going back down and then through the middle again - what causes this and is this the same mechanism at work as blowing smoke rings as I should assume?

[Q] Scientific Dating Methods

Hello People. I am writing to ask about dating methods. Are all scientific dating methods accurate past a thousand years? For instance The New York Times Thursday, August 4, 1988 published an article of planes that had gone down in WW2 and were under 260 feet of Ice. I know that if 260 feet of ice took 45 years then there is know way we could get millions of years with Ice Core Dating especially since the the rings can be caused from heating and cooling of the earths surface during seasons.

[Q] How was this achieved?

Hey Guys and Gals. I saw this video and after watching many times and asking friends what they thought...wanted to know if any of you could shed some light on it. The video can be found here. Aurgasm | your favorite music you've never heard It's title is "Gentle Fireworks." Here is a link to the direct Video: Ólafur Arnalds - Ljósið (Official Music Video) on Vimeo The effect looks like dancing smoke and such. I don't know if its a digital effect or a program. What I would love to know is...how was this done? Is this an actual reaction of some kind or what? Any information you can give me so I can do this would be GREAT! Thanks a TON in advance, OP5

[Q] How do you embed a smilie in a web address

I put this web address on my signature just to promote the 350 ppm movement for a few days. 350.orgIn my draft that has http :// www. included (BTW if i don't put aspace between http and www i get Vivio Technologies - ColdFusion VPS and Dedicated Server Hosting, I was surprised to see it contained a sun-smilie. "How clever," i thought, it looked Ok but if you click on it or use it as an address it takes you no where -defeating the whole point of the exercise. I have tried to get rid of it but can't if i cut and paste it here:- I get http://www.35rg Strange? and? clever? too clever? computer glitch?

[Q] science fair/ wind tunnel question

For my science fair project, I am going to be constructing a wind tunnel that measures lift. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for a good wind tunnel and/or a good power source? I thought maybe for the wind tunnel I could use a drainage pipe but I'm not sure. Furthermore, I think the conventional household fan will not be powerful enough- a leafblower maybe? THANKS!!

[Q] creating sound waves with heated gases

I vaguely remember some tech papers on creating mechanical energy by heating various gases under pressure at one end of a sealed tube (wave generator) this produces sound waves through the gas, which impact a diaphragm at the other end of the tube. As this diaphragm pulses, mechanical energy is transferred to a power train, or medium for storing that energy. The more the gas is compressed under pressure, the less heat needed to make these sound waves. My question is this: What the heck is the name for this process? Is it old or semi-new? The solar applications are obvious. Can anyone describe in more detail the sciences involved with sound waves and heated, pressurized gases? To me, gas molecules get excited under pressure and heat... too much and boom! I am not grasping the directional flow of sound waves. Why sound waves? why not chaotic molecules bouncing everywhere? Is it the linear shape of the tube that causes direction? But why and how come sound waves? faster and faster pulsing or ricochet would explain the diaphragm movement but we are talking rhythmic, continuous pulsing. Something sound waves could do. I truly don't know...but now I need to. Any help would be appreciated. thanks, plumber.

[Q] If electronic money could twitter, what would it say?

Twitter, I gather, asks and answers the question "What are you doing?" No, I don't need to know that about anybody, but I would like to know what my money does when it goes "under the radar". Example one, transfer (BPay) from savings account to credit card. Immediate debit in savings account. Three days later money still has not arived at credit card. " Where are you money? What are you doing?" Example two, sold my first few things on Ebay. The people have paid (their accounts debited immediately). Two weeks later the money is still not in my account. "Where are you my money? What are you doing today?"
