how would I find the average speed for a moving gas particle?
I know it uses Boltzmann's constant but I havent found out how tu use it correctly yet.

Re: average Speed of moving gas particles

m\overline{v^2}=3kT

Now this is the average of velocities squared, which isn't the same as the square of the average.

If you want the average velocity and not the average kinetic energy you need to work it out by integrating over the distribution of velocities, which you could get from the Boltzmann distribution by considering E_i=\frac{1}{2}m_iv_i^2. I haven't tried doing this, if you find it's too tricky for you to do then perhaps it's really the average energy that you want.
