Research Project

As part of my science course I have the opportunity to take on a research project that will continue for the rest of the year. If I choose to do it, it must be maths based but can be in any main area or science. I am thinking of taking on an astrophysics topic, not sure on specifics yet.

So if you had the opportunity to study and research something, what would it be?

What math do you favor in relation to science? Calculus, statistics, sets, etc? If you choose a favorite math area, then you can look for something in astrophysics that uses that.
Just brainstorming a little for you JQ.

Re: Research Project

much appreciated I can do pure maths if I want, but I would much rather applied. I dont mind differential maths

Look into Uncle Al's superconductor idea.

He has sent me some more information by PM as well. Give him shout if you are interested in this stuff.

Re: Research Project

cool, file that in the maybe pile, bit worried about the lack of the maths side of it.. It is a maths subject (within the science faculty) and it happens to lend itself to astrophysics and the like.

Re: Research Project

if you want some astrophysics problem... maybe the 3-body problem or relativistic 2-body problem? they are both famous unsolved problem....

Perhaps a statistical review of NEOs (Near Earth Objects); it's quite the hot topic these days with plenty of unaswered questions.
