| Suspended | Re: Naughty Words It is based on context and societal norms, but some words clearly are more biting and have very intense tones. For example: Helpful vs. Giving Green vs. Neon Frustration vs. Anger Intercourse vs. Humping Hungry vs. Starving Sickly vs. Dying... They each mean something different... like the Eskimos have 20-30 different names for snow, each has a specific application. In a social context, and with the need to respect those around us, the more "biting" and harsher terms tend to be offensive. George Carlin had a good treatise on this in one of his specials, and frequently asks some similar questions. For example, his Seven Dirty Words routine. Here's an NPR exerpt on this: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...toryId=4136881 | |
