| Re: Huygens lands on Titan I had to visit some anti-progressive relatives in Oklahoma this weekend so couldn't find out until just now how things went. They watch FOX news network and when one of the commentators mentioned the story about Huygens, he was scoffed at and told that no one was interested, that some recent murder conviction was much more important. My relatives had never even heard of the space mission. The story was buried on the back page of the classified section of the Tulsa Tribune. Most of my friends are awed and excited by scientific events. Times like this it is stunning to realize we may be among the few. |

| Re: Huygens lands on Titan It's rare to find people who knows about this stuff, and I sometimes "wake up" and realise that maybe it's very unusual that people know this. It's too bad really. At least it got good coverage in the mainstream news online as well as some mention on TV. I think that ESA and NASA should try to reach out more and make people aware on what they actually do. Maybe the public would become more interested and more likely to support future missions. As it is now it's not likely to find someone who even is aware of the existence of ESA... |

| Re: Huygens lands on Titan Huygens successful landing on Titan was the headline title for the Winnipeg Free Press yesterday. They continue the article with a full page including interviews from most organizations that were involved (no ESA...). Afterwards they go on to explain what had happened and even include a few illustrations with the process of landing, the atmosphere and what it is composed of (source: ESA), and the already released images you saw first on the internet. Good to know that we are not amongst the few/many who try to censor space exploration and achievment. Congrats to you Tormod, and many thanks to all involved for a mission well done with little to no error. |

As for reality TV... holy crap. Don't get me started. When it began a few years ago I thought that there was no way something so stupid could ever catch on. Given humankind's historic records regarding stupid actions I should've known better. Now such "reality" shows are the only things we see. TV has deteriorated rapidly, and it seems to me that people only make the decay go faster and faster - for whatever reason. It is a fantastic medium that doesn't live up to its potential. Keep the people ignorant and entertained. | ||
