Re: North korea

When a nuclear weapon detonates it releases an Electromagnetic Pulse, an EMP. The best way to maximize this EMP is to detonate the nuke in low earth orbit, the US did it once over the mid Pacific Ocean, it shut down everything electrical even sheep shearers as far away as Australia. The damage down was extraordinary considering how small the nuke was and the extent of the damage. Modern electronics are if anything even more susceptible to EMP than 1960's Australia was. All autos, airplanes, computers, banks anything electronic would be damaged, most beyond repair. Things like electric grids would be over loaded and shut down. During the cold war one the of the most considered attack scenarios was to detonate a nuke above a target and knock out everything electrical before invasion instead of actually nuking a place.

Let's not get towads racism here Theory5 (just wanted to say it harshly, I know there was no such intent by your part), there is no reason why they should not know. They are not stupid and the real followers (like for example the researchers who built that rocket) have unrestricted access to the internet, so they can read about such things on plenty of sites like this...if they wouldn't know about it already, which I strongly doubt, because I have no idea about building a rocket and its electronics, but I knew about EMPs. So I deduce that their electronic engineers know it for sure.

Also, I would have to check, but I do not think there is no education for everyone, if you are born in the right family, I think you get a kind of decent education. So yes it will be a minority, but there are people with a quite education also there.

Re: North korea

Yes Sanctus, I agree, thinking that North Korea wouldn't know because they or their society is inferior in some way would be a mistake. Racism is very bad thing no matter how you cut it but to assume your enemy is inhuman in an attempt to denigrate him is and was a mistake. The USA did that to the Japanese at the start of WW2 and payed for it by not bing prepared when the attacks came. I never assume any one isn't capable, assume the are and be pleasantly surprised if they are not!

Really? The scientists in North Korea get unrestricted access? interesting.

Racism? I am sorry if my post gave you that idea. I was refering to a few things that had nothing to do with racism. The first thing is their mentally impared leader, I doubt he would figure out about that effect. The second thing well it was referring to the censorship of the internet. I heard they can only look at two sites and they are both government sites. The third thing was referring to was the way their rocket failed.

Re: North korea

Sorry about the racism claim dude, but it truly is a mistake to underestimate the enemy. If these guys can make a bomb they know about EMP for sure.

Re: North korea

It is the government restricting access to the internet, so if you work for the government and are a trusted person (like the engineers for example), I see no reason why there should be any censorship. But yes, the majority of the people have strongly restricted access.

Wow, Moontanman, already talking about the enemy! It is not so bad...

Even if they don't have unrestricted access to the Internet nuclear engineers should know about EMP, it's not exactly a secrete and study of nuclear weapons should include EMP for sure.

North Korea is in an almost unique position of being the enemy of all civilized societies, no reason what so ever to trust NK.

North Korea has been enemies with everyone ever since their current leader came into power and they because a neuclear power. We dont know much about their nuclear weapons program so they could have skipped researching after effects, you never know.
