time travel

hi everyone re time travel heres somethingthing to think about:

if you were to step backward in time say about 1 minute after 1 minute goes by you will step backward again because you did it before therefore being in a ever repeating loop. A simular thing would happen if you stepped forward your arrival would keep repeating.

If therefore one accepts that you cant step forward or backward even for the minutest amount of time, HOW LONG IS NOW?

OK, if for sake of argument we ignore the impossible physics of moving back in time.

GR shows an event as it's unique time/space event. Each has it's own X,Y,Z,T.

When people talk about "time travel", they seldom address the other three axis, X,Y,Z.

If you were to go from X,Y,Z,T to X',Y',Z',T' you would not only move in "time" you would move in "space".

Or perhaps if you move to X,Y,Z,T', what would the X,Y,Z, represent? Would it be you CURRENT, T location? Would, as we are in an expanding universe, that X,Y,Z, no longer be on the earth? Would the earth be at X',Y',Z',T' while your at X,Y,Z,T' ?

RE: time travel

I think that you would have to change your X, Y, and Z because the earth is moving and rotating, so if you just changed the T, it would have to be to the exact second years later.

RE: time travel

The sun is moving around the galaxy and the galaxy is moving through the universe. It would be very difficult to know exactly where X,Y,Z will be.

You are assuming that in a year, the earth would be back at the same location in the universe. While in reality we would have travelled some distance as the universe is expanding.

Do we even have any reference for locating our existence X,Y,Z in the universe? Is such a thing possible?

RE: time travel

isnt it that universe doesnt have a center?

so its not right to say XYZT

since a point considers a comparasion to the orgin.

RE: time travel

No you folks got it all wrong. See, Superman just flew very fast (probably superluminal) around the Earth a couple of thousand times and Lois Lane didn't die after all. No need for XYZ and all that stuff.

But then again he enden up in a wheelchair. I say this time travel stuff is no good for your health.

(Okay, it's Friday).

"I say this time travel stuff is no good for your health"

yes~!

after you came back, you gotta get used to the standard time!
it probably takes a week!
(just like when you fly to another country.... you cant sleep during the night, but sleep during days!)

and be careful to not bring any diseases into the past (or bring back diseases from future), so, always check your health b4 you travel!!!!

and government should really have some regulation about time travel...see, if i bring a super whatever from the future, i will get credit for this "new" discovery, and make not thousands but billions of $ out of it!!!!

(and yes, its friday!!!)
;-o

Currently, no. Theoretically, using the doppler shift of the cosmic background radiation could tell us the approximate direction and speed that we are traveling, relative to the observable universe. It is currently believed to be 600km/second away from the Virgo cluster of galaxies. Which are moving at 1000 km/second in a slightly different direction. With out reference points we can't know the speed or direction of the observable universe. Locating the center of the actual universe is not possible with current technology. Without at least 3 points of reference I don't see calculating our current X, Y, Z.
