Perhaps in the distant future when scientists are able to time travel, they will go back in time and tinker with genetics, thereby effecting themselves in the future. Perhaps in a secret American bunker strange humanoid creatures exist with very high intelligence, the result of their future offspring going back in time and tinkering with genetics. Or perhaps humans are the result of these experiments. Otherwise maybe we would still be swinging from tree to tree.

On the otherhand maybe time travel is not possible and evolution took the non-feedback route.
