When we are young one believes what the bigger people in our lives say. As one gets older, one looks for someone with higher and higher prestige level in the cultural pecking order to determine which of the big people one should believe. This is the easy path to believing since it amounts to just memorizing using only a reliable source filter. The snext stage goes one step further and begins to seek hands on data to test the reliability of one's source of beliefs.
