heaven and hell

On a general note heaven is where god stays and hell is where evil stays.Do all religions have the concept of heaven and hell?If so where exactly are they? Many believe that thier good deeds take them to heaven, which shows the insatiable desire of human to go on living even after death.Positive thinking. One more thing,If each religion has a separate heaven and hell, then where are these ultimate destinations situated.

Maybe Hell is a black hole, time stops in the bottomless pit and the pressure and heat last forever. The queston I would ask is; how did this concept come into being thousands of years ago when today it can be explained realistically in scientific terms?

The pearly gates heaven, fire and brimstone hell are Christian fantasies. No other religion I'm aware of has anything similar. The notion of afterlife for a disembodied soul is also mostly Christian.

Re: heaven and hell

Well, I'm a Hindu, and Hinduism has a concept of heaven and hell, but it is pretty similar to the Christian concept (but older).

I think though, that there is nothing like heaven and hell. When you die, you just... die. There is no afterlife (this concet too has a place in Hinduism , by the way). Heaven and Hell were created by ancient philosophers to make people behave nicely, because they would fear going to hell.

Re: heaven and hell

everything is comprised of 'form(Rupa)' and 'mind or consciousness(Nama)'. for example, Any psychological orgamism like human being is made of both, Heaven is made of mind, Hell is also made of mind. we, as a buddhist, believe life is the co-existence of mind and matter. Death is the seperation of mind and matter. Rebirth is recombination of mind and matter. After the passing away of the physical body (matter), the mental forces (mind) recombine and assume a new combination in a different material form and condition another existence. the mind part of th compound is what experiences an object and the matter part does not experience of anything. Heaven and Hell is the place for mind after death while matter is decayed. so, both places are temperary places during to alleviate the mind. we see both as an inpermanent place as in combination although they are sensically different. finally, they are only 'one-stop sevice' along our journey to Nirvana.

(this post is not a advertisment for buddhism. )

they are situated in people's minds because they're both fake.

While I believe these notions exist as such in the minds of the faithful, in physical reality, we are machines - just ripples of energy emanating from the big bang.

There's a poem in there somewhere.

Many religions have a concept of Heaven & Hell. Where have you been since 9-11-01 (and before)? Have you not heard that the Muslim extremists believe that when they blow themselves up and murder Jews, Americans and other infidels that they will go to Heaven and be greeted by 72 virgins? One homicide bomber recruiter said he tells the potential killer, "If you become a martyr, God will give you 70 virgins, 70 wives and everlasting happiness." -article

No, all religions do not have a concept of Heaven and Hell. One example is Jehovah's Witnesses or The Watchtower Society. They belive in Heaven for 144 people and life on the New Earth for other lesser believers. But, if you are not a member of their society, when you die your total being is destroyed. To them it is illogical for God to waste His time creating a place to punish souls for eternity.
