Old ones I love are Sepultura (Chaos AD, Roots) Dimmu Borgir (more death metal, but "enterthone Darkness triumphant" (or something like that) is really great) Megadeth is a bit soft but I like it Halloween as well a bit soft but quite cool (they have many but not all are cool) Pantera (some songs) you may also want to look at therion, In Extremo, tiamat andlife of agony...  Student   | Re: Anyone know any decent metal/hard rock bands? Well, it's not exactly hard rock, but my favorite punk-rock band is Alkaline Trio. Their music might just be dark and depressive enough to suit your desires. If you want something a little more "metal", I like the band Bullet for My Valentine.  bike | Re: Anyone know any decent metal/hard rock bands? I used to love metal. Then I started to actually understand music. The Mudvayne album LD50 has some awesome drum/bass lines. Trippy lyrics, too. There's even some excepts from McKenna "Yes we are an ape with a symbiotic relationship to a mushroom and that is what has given us self reflection, language, religion and all the spectrum of emotions that stem from these things.
