Re: Posting New Polls

Yeah, Hypo time is a bit fast. I have my clocks all set to the exact time (I call the 1(619)853-1212 number and you hear a recording saying exactly what time it is every 10 seconds. Good morning/evening, at the tone Pacific Standard time will be 4:20... exactly. *BEEP*. ... Good morning/evening, at the tone Pacific Standard time will be 4:20, and 10 seconds... *BEEP*.) I'll let you know exactly how fast after this reply . I'm gonna wait 'til one of my clocks hits 3:31 then see what time Hypo says it is .

(This isn't really Watercooler material, btw...)

Yeah, I can. That's why I asked two other staff members who were online.

Posting it here makes it easier for others to help out, as you might have noticed (others have already replied).
Which was great, except they didn't have any authori-tie to fix the problem, only make suggestions.

Where exactly are you trying to post a poll? I asked you that in the PM I sent you.
Here is your PM response:
"Yes, but it depends on where you want to post it. The announcement forum is for admins, editors, and moderators only.
"Please ask this kind of questions in the User Feedback forum so others can help out and also see the solution."

I didn't see a question there; only a request to post my question somewhere else.

Let me know and I can check the permission settings.
I was trying to post a poll in "Community Polls."
Wouldn't it have been a LOT more efficient to simply check my permission settings?

Here is your post again:

"Please ask this kind of questions in the User Feedback forum so others can help out and also see the solution."

So the "announcement forum" is synonymous with "Community Polls forum"?
Where would one come by that information, or the information you supplied above, without having to ask someone for it?

The Community polls reside within the "Announcements - Please read" forum.

Did you get help or not? Sounds to me like you are really upset about something. It's not like we're not interested in getting you sorted here.

The fact that you were not allowed to post polls in that forum was the first clue. The second was my PM and Turtle's response, above.

It wasn't a problem, so there was nothing for them to fix. That forum is simply not available for everyone to post polls in. Everyone can VOTE in the polls there, though.

Now, is there anything else we can do for you?

Re: Posting New Polls

I'm sorry Satia, I should have spoken up the first time I saw this because I had asked the same question before. Only reason I didn't is because I had to run, and I expected someone else to take care of it. By the time I came back, Tor had already answered your question.
Tor, I was under the impression that we had to ask for permission to join that group that has permission to post in the community polls forum. Is that still the case?

In fact, NO members are supposed to be able to post in the polls forums except a select few.

However, on closer inspection I have found that Lounge members can post in the polls forum. That sounds like a reasonable requirement, so I'll leave that option available.

So to post in the polls forum, join the lounge. Information on how to join the lounge is found in - the Lounge.

Projection, perhaps?

And the third "clue" is your comment in a thread that no one is allowed to post there except a "select few." Not everyone enjoys a clue hunt; why not just spell it out in the user level descriptions?

Well yeah, thanks for asking. I realize forums this large require the power to ban members occasionally. But Hype's policy on banning seems subjective and whimsical. Consider instituting a three person panel to arbitrate banning members. Since no one is perfect, there is always a danger that the verdict of an individual may be warped by prejudice or distorted by passion. Group judgment is more likely to eliminate the unfairness of personal bias.

Thanks,
—Saitia

Good idea. But your "I am annoyed" slant is tiring. How big is the chip on your shoulder?

Thank you for sharing. What makes it appear this way?

We ban spammers instantly, without remorse. In extreme cases we also need to ban a member pretty fast, to save them from themselves. This rarely happens, and usually only temporarily

Members who are in the "begging for a ban zone", and who are up for a permanent ban, are discussed by the mods and admin. This team totals about 15-16 people. However, there are only a few members with the power to place a ban - these are the admins, and they only ban someone when it has been discussed by the moderators (except for spammers).
