If you've got a recent version of GoogleEarth installed (the application, not the web page), it should navigate directly to the location specified in the kml file (it did for us!).
If you don't have the application installed, well, shame on you! Quote:

Just looking,
Buffy | Speaking of just looking, I was just looking around the GoogleEarth Community Forum and found people are doing more than pretty pictures. The name of their game is location, location, location. For example I found a KML for all the US Airforce bases. There are some for bomb shelters in Germany (Mercedes ) with KML's. Lots of Military theme stuff. The flying around to explore seems only a small part of what people are using this resource for.

I used GoogleEarth to plan & record both the Sasquatch expeditions and the Lechtenberg Park study. The measuring tool is very handy. I only recently found you can change elevation for side views as well as straight down. (keep in mind the side views are extrapolations & not actual photos.) Quote: |

Re: GoogleEarth I'm glad you got it figured out Turtle, otherwise I wouldn't have found this forum. It's really pretty easy once you get the hang of it. I never would have been able to post if I had to figure out kml/kmz first. But did you know that once you have GE downloaded and the code you showed, there's an easy way to display that. Highlight and copy the file code, right-click on "My Places" and choose paste from the menu. All of that code becomes a placemark icon in "My Places" and in the viewer.
You can also search the web to see if a particular place has a kml file. Just search for "kml crater" for instance and kml files showing craters will be displayed from GEC and other forums.

I knew there had to be some shortcuts. Is there a way to get a KML for any placemark? When I right click on them I don't see an option for that.

Then go to your desktop (windows key+D) and create an empty text file by right-clicking on an empty space on the desktop and selecting "New->Text Document". Then paste the copied text in there and name the file "whatever.kml".

Being beta, it is more likely to go buggy on you. If you have an older version, start it up and save your "My Places" placemarks to your hard drive first - just in case. Google Earth
Frank Taylor, at Google Earth Blog, has taken the time to write about new things available and illustrated things with stills and videos. Google Earth Blog: New Photo Viewer with Gigapixel Layer in Google Earth Google Earth Blog: Video Showing New Google Sky Feature of Google Earth 4.2
One addition is the addition of Gigapixl photos as placemarks you can click, which takes you to a "billboard" picture on the GE globe. Click on the photo and you can go to very high details inside the picture...
