Do you have GoogleEarth on your computer? If yes, what do you use it for and how do you like it? If no, why not?

Now that the thread is open, I have some specific questions for anyone familiar with using GoogleEarth and/or GoogleEarth Community Forum.

I have found what I believe is a 135km diameter impact crater in Mexico that is not on the official lists. I want to mark it so anyone who uses GoogleEarth and has Community layers on will see my mark. I read the help stuff and they say with your mark selected, choose the 'save as KML' option. I did this, and here is the contents of my KML file when opened in Notepad.
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<kml xmlns="http://earth.google.com/kml/2.1">
<Document>
	<name>Cráter del Tortuga Jorge.kml</name>
	<Style id="sh_icon36_copy1">
		<IconStyle>
			<color>ff00ffff</color>
			<scale>1.1</scale>
			<Icon>
				<href>http://maps.google.com/mapfiles/kml/pal3/icon36.png</href>
			</Icon>
		</IconStyle>
	</Style>
	<StyleMap id="msn_icon44_copy1">
		<Pair>
			<key>normal</key>
			<styleUrl>#sn_icon44_copy1</styleUrl>
		</Pair>
		<Pair>
			<key>highlight</key>
			<styleUrl>#sh_icon36_copy1</styleUrl>
		</Pair>
	</StyleMap>
	<Style id="sn_icon44_copy1">
		<IconStyle>
			<color>ff00ffff</color>
			<Icon>
				<href>http://maps.google.com/mapfiles/kml/pal3/icon44.png</href>
			</Icon>
		</IconStyle>
	</Style>
	<Placemark>
		<name>Cráter del Tortuga Jorge</name>
		<description>135 kilometer crater below mark. Cráter del Tortuga Jorge. Discovered using Google Earth May 26, 2007.</description>
		<LookAt>
			<longitude>-107.2278254711386</longitude>
			<latitude>26.86724098863387</latitude>
			<altitude>0</altitude>
			<range>538616.3037356483</range>
			<tilt>0</tilt>
			<heading>5.454484852241148</heading>
		</LookAt>
		<styleUrl>#msn_icon44_copy1</styleUrl>
		<Point>
			<coordinates>-107.1961046645983,27.90356070949212,0</coordinates>
		</Point>
	</Placemark>
</Document>
</kml>
The instructions then say to upload my KML file somewhere on a server, and then when I paste that URL it will take people to my Mark, (and/or make my Mark visible to anyone with Community layers on that flies over the position of the crater?...I hope???) This is where I have hung-fire. How do I 'upload' a file with extension KML when it's not an extension option for attachments or Gallery images?

Takk.

I use it to look for impact craters

Looking at the inca (or are they aztec) lines in peru was kinda fun.

The Sphinx was pretty cool too.

On Forest Lake in Minnesota lake is half iced, half open. Forest lake is a chain of 3 lakes. If you zoom in on First lake, you see a boat and to the east of that, you see Ice and fish houses.

The second lake part shows the roads on the ice and alot more fish houses.

Third lake is kinda cool cuz you can see where the Ice ridge formed from the wind blowing the ice east before it became real solid.

I think its on second lake you can see the shadow of a small plane on the ice, but I havent been able to find the plane yet.

I tried to upload it to geocities and it refused. Not an accepted file type.

Well, I tried over at PostMagnet, but not an accepted file type there. Not acceptable file type here at Hypog either. The instructions simply said. 'upload it to a server somewhere'.

Here's the page I used. >> What Is KML?

Good thing I can swim or I'd be drowned by now.

Looking for an obscure city name to put in my profile. I first found a smaller one just NW of it, about 8 miles across, then found the big one as I expanded my search in the area. I wrote USGS, but no word back yet.

It worked for me too!! Yippeeee!!! thank you! been trying for weeks to sort this one out. We are hunting impact sites actively over here. >> http://hypography.com/forums/environ...ct-site-s.html Now we can authenticate our discovery claims. can you hear us now???

I use GoogleEarth to look at other parts of the world, not for anything in particular, just looking.
