| Student | Re: recalibrating pH meter You need to give it a sample solution to base it's calculations off of. So, what you want to google is "buffer solutions". You usually need to give it more than 1 sample (2 or 3 of varying pHs is preferable) so that it can function properly. Hope that helps. ![]() ---------------- Moderator -- Chemistry, Biology, Watercooler, Competitions, Architecture. Join our Facebook group | |

| Thinking | Re: recalibrating pH meter Quote:
The frequency of calibration depend on the type of usage and therefore the accuracy needed. We calibrate once a day for process control, but if you do not need 0.05 pH accuracy, once a month might be OK. Just follow the probe storage instructions in the manual. How you store the probe is very important as it is filled with either a 3Molar or a saturated KCl solution. This is open to the atmosphere through a sinter glass membrane and can change in concentration if some water evaporate. ---------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Cobus "It is impossible for a man to learn what he thinks he already knows." - Epictetus "The eye sees only what the mind is prepared to comprehend." - Henri Bergson "Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference" - Unknown Last edited by jab2; 10-09-2007 at 11:24 PM.
