A neat video that demonstrates perception

I'm posting a link to a website at the University of Illinois. Don't click it until you read all of this text! In this video there are several people running around throwing basketballs. Half of the people are wearing white shirts and half are wearing black. Concentrate on the people with white shirts and count how many times a ball is passed between a person wearing a white shirt to a person wearing a white shirt. How many tosses occurred between only the white shirts?

It happens fast, so be ready!

Re: A neat video that demonstrates perception

I don't see the real difficulty, except the need to concentrate enough. On the first view, I wasn't sure I had watched well enough, thought I might have missed one or two times for insufficient attention, so to make sure I replayed just to cross-check. I hadn't missed any after all and I have no doubt about the number, except for ambiguous moments (mainly one) when it's hard to make sure it hasn't "bounced" between hands; this is only a problem of where it is seen from. I won't say the number here, just to avoid telling anyone that still wants to try.

So, what's the trick?

Re: A neat video that demonstrates perception

Thanks for not giving it away, but you'd be surprised on the variation of answers people come up with, so go ahead and post your guess.
I came up with 14.
