Please list your favorite extinct animals and why they are no longer with us

The Terrible-dactyl, It's stream lined form allowed it to jump off tall cliffs and attain a top speed of 200 mph.... once....

Quote:
Gigantopithecus is an extinct genus of ape that existed from roughly one million years to as recently as three-hundred thousand years ago,[1] in what is now China, India, and Vietnam, placing Gigantopithecus in the same time frame and geographical location as several hominid species.[2] The fossil record suggests that the Gigantopithecus blacki species were the largest apes that ever lived, standing up to 10 feet (3.0 m) and weighing up to 1,200 pounds (540 kg
I do not know why they died out.

Quote:
Argentavis magnificens (literally "Magnificent Argentine Bird") is the largest flying bird ever discovered. This bird, sometimes called the Giant Teratorn, is an extinct species known from (as of 2006) three sites from the late Miocene (6 million years before present) of central and northwestern Argentina, where a good sample of fossils has been obtained.[1]

The humerus (upper arm bone) of Argentavis is somewhat damaged. It allows a fairly accurate estimate of its length in life, which was a bit shorter than an entire human arm.[2] The species apparently had stout, strong legs and large feet which enabled it to walk with ease. The bill was large, rather slender, had a hooked tip with a wide gape
More that likely died out follow the demise of the mega fauna.

The Thyacline and marsupial lion are cool because they have pockets and are neat examples of convergent evolution.
The thyacline went extinct in the 1930s due to bounty hunting, and the lion 40-50k ago due to humans over-hunting its primary food sources.

The megatherium is a beast that has always fascinated me since childhood. Wiki says they went extinct either from human hunting or climate changes.

Ok if not funny animals lets be serious, Dimetridon, dinosaurs drove it to extinction. Dimetridon was one of the lines ancestral to mammals. Dimetridon was not a dinosaur.

Re: Favorite extinct animals and why they died out.

I really like the semimegatherium. It was huge, but only in front. It's back legs were only half the size of the front ones, a feature probably due to the fact that semimegatherium lived only on chili peppers and had to take a poop really often.

It died out because they kept falling over backwards and couldn't get up.
