The oboist in me

This is the track I have submitted for the February contest over at KVRAudio.com.

My Oboe and Me
http://www.wusik.com/users/kovacs/05...myoboeanme.mp3

The theme of the month was to unleash an unknown personae. I was going to unleash my pop star personae but he has had a throat infection for three weeks now so that didn't work out too well.

Instead the oboist in me jumped at the chance to show his skills.

Re: The oboist in me

Very cool! Did you do the keys yourself, or are those loops? At times I feel like i'm in a forest, haha that sounds weird, but I like the vibe. Nice work Kovacs, and good luck

Re: The oboist in me

Nah, I can't play piano like that (even with 4 years of lessons...ages ago). I was planning on simplifying the stuff and playing it myself, and do the melody on the acoustic guitar but I thought never mind...the loops sounded so cool.

It's actually Garageband 2 loops! First time I ever tried that program. I found no way to export each of the tracks though, so I mixed down the loops and the oboe and added the guitar in FL Studio on PC.

And I did some very basic mastering in Adobe Audition...I only had AA for three days so I have a lot to learn.

Thanks for listening, though.

Re: The oboist in me

Awesome, no problem. I'll listen to anything anybody posts, I love to see what people can do.
Garageband is surprisingly really cool, i reformatted my G5 when i first got it because it went haywire (it was crazy) and i lost that program. Bummer!

Very nice. Let us know how you place. It sounds like the folks over there have got some stiff competition to deal with

Re: The oboist in me

On average I tend to get very few votes at all. But I'm only in it because it gives me a deadline, plus it forces me to listen to a lot of stuff I otherwise probably wouldn't have found time for - which is an incredibly good way to learn new stuff.

As usual, very nice. Still waiting for your cd to arrive in the mail. It sounds like great relaxation music to me!

Re: The oboist in me

Wow...this went really swell. I usually place near the bottom but I actually got 19th place (out of 50) which is extremely good. 11 out of 43 voters gave my song points, the best score was a second place and I also got some third places (everyone rates their favorite tracks from 1-10).

Weeeeeee.

Way to go Tormod. I finally listened to the piece & liked it fine. I admit I didn't realize it wasn't a real oboe. My favorite oboe sounds are the deep ones that you feel as much as hear. Nothing like a bass woodwind to make you feel happy-sad.
