i would say that it means that person is not stupid, his acts r... example scientist is in his work all day, going home, thinking of new formulas and didnt sow red light on crossing... he keep on walking and... BANG car hit him... u see he is not stupid, but his act was!

I think it means you don't know someone is stupid, until you see them do something stupid. From then on, you consider them stupid. Moreover, stupid means incapable of learning by experience wheras ignorant means one simply doesn't know.__An ignorant person may learn, a stupid person not.
