| Doing the Impossible | Re: What's the best game ever made, in your opinion? And why? "Star Raiders" on the Atari 800 was the shit back in the day. My first FPS was my favorite, "Marathon" for the Macintosh. I played it on my 25 mhz pre-PowerPC mac and had to minimize everything to make the framerate high enough to even be remotely considered playable. But I spent DAYS battling for control of the ship. I don't play much these days, but when I do it is Dungeon Seige (I or II). My computers are just fast enough to make it tolerable, but not fast enough to play it well. Keeping the computers slow saves me a ton of money on buying new games. Bill ---------------- aka TheBigDog - Hypography Full Freaking Moderator Become a Hypography sponsor! I hold that game responsible giving me an acadmeic mindset. If I could find it, I would probably still play it today. ---------------- Moderator -- Chemistry, Biology, Watercooler, Competitions, Architecture. Join our Facebook group | |

| Understanding | Re: What's the best game ever made, in your opinion? And why? I'm going to agree with pmgrdave and say old pen and paper D&D (although I have to disagree on the BG2 part... I really wanted to like that game, too). I would still play D&D if I could find someone who would make a good DM. I'd even be a DM myself if I could find other people to play the game with me. And count my fiancee out, he thinks I'm a total geek when it comes to this stuff... so I'm basically on my own here. Those long non-stop weekends of D&D where we would all sit there and play from Friday until as late Sunday night as we could manage to were just amazing. Guess I couldn't handle that now, I'd probably be falling asleep here and there, but that was SO MUCH FUN, and I've never had any console or computer game come close to being so completely captivating or have me sitting in front of it for days solid without even taking a shower or eating a real meal :P And certainly no other game that might possibly have resulted in me missing out on any sex. Hell no. I'd miss a little for D&D. Really. Honest. A little. Maybe a lot, heck, I can have that an ytime, but I never get D&D!I also miss the old text based C64 game I used to play... was it Zork? And on the original NES I played sooooo many hours of Gauntlet and Gauntlet 2 (Gauntlet 2 quickly became boring except that you got to play the 4 player mode). I also have another secret pleasure... and it's Dance Dance Revolution. There is a huge one at the movie theater I go to, and if there ever was a time when I was there any nobody else was around, I'd be a dancing fool on that thing. At least a fool, certainly. ![]() But, still for me, the best game ever made was old D&D. Can't beat a little imagination... the graphics are never obsolete. ---------------- "The scriptures teach how to go to heaven, not how the heavens go." - Galileo | |
