The happy amateur's bike race success

I participated in a pretty cool road race last Sunday. It was 6 laps around a 10km route, which took us from a 140m high point down to sea level, and back up a steep hill.

This is me on the left, just before the finish line. I finished about 60 out of 90, not bad for a 38 year old newbie.

The course profile shows a pretty long and steep hill over the last 3,5 kilometers of each lap. The altitude markers show Meters, not Feet.

re: The happy amateur's bike race success

I forgot to mention the time. It took me 2 hours 2 minutes to complete the race. This is an average of just a tiny bit less than 30km/h, or 18.6mph. That's my best average for any race this season.

Re: The happy amateur's bike race success

Good stuff! You clearly got way more energy than me.

I bought me an awesome mountain bike with all the bells and whistles about ten years ago to get all fit and stuff, and even bought a nifty little electronic speedometer to keep tabs my performance and such.

I am ashamed to say that now, almost ten years later, the odometer have registered a Grand Total of 2.8 kilometers.

My suckiness in local fitness circles is legendary.

At least I'm good at that. Like in "I'm waaaay more unfit than you are! So there!"
