why does drug/alchohol use cause memory loss? i want to know the details....

The exact process of memory formation and storage is still not fully understood, so how some substances alter this process my still be up in the air.

AS well as it interferes with mylenation and dendrtite formation as well and these two process are implicated in memory formation, but the exat biology/chemistry of it is still not understood.

depends on the substance how many brain cells are damaged or killed, i'm pretty sure they all do.
