At least you are all getting it right by guessing four-letter words.GETE

Not guns or toys. In the first clues I gave, I used the word "ancient" & this means "as old or older than any written record". While "it" is often viewed as a toy, that is not its name. The four-letter name of "it" is singular tense; one "it".
___Sorry I didn't format that as before; I am dancing as fast as I can.

___It's not Khua, although that is very insigtful Racoon in view of the clues. The Khua is however not very well known & I don't make riddles that have answers common folk don't know. The "it" is known & recognized by virtually every-one.

Re: Riddles

Alright Turtle-san
I just did a little research and found an answer that fits most of your clues and is something I know that you know about.
It indeed is a toy that has been used in battle.
It can be made of hemp
it is ancient and recognized
it can be very small or very large
it is 4 different letters

KITE !!!
If this isn't right I/we at least deserve another clue you scoundral!
