Re: Quirky Science Facts!

A Google search for '"unscientific facts" philosophy' produces mainly pro-religious articles.
Here's one from a search for "quirky scientific facts": http://www.hickman.k12.ky.us/aleclere/ A duck's quack doesn't echo, is a nice one.

HA! My wife is convinced that putting hot water in an ice tray makes it freeze faster than putting cold water in an ice tray. I solved the issue by getting a fridge with an ice maker.

Re: Quirky Science Facts!

I keep trying to find confirmation on this, but for the life of me cannot find it. If I am not mistaken (which, I just might be...) there is a 300 volt difference in potential between our head and our feet, just due to the fact that we are walking around through the atmoshphere like organic lightning rods...

But I can't find confirmation! Sorry.

Jean-Bernard-Leon Foucault's pendulum experiment of 1851 is the first ever proof that the Earth rotates on its axis.

A Fine-Tooth Comb To Measure The Accelerating Universe
imageAstronomical instruments needed to answer crucial questions, such as the search for Earth-like planets or the way the Universe expands, have come a step closer with the first demonstration at the telescope of a new calibration system for precise spectrographs. The method uses a Nobel Prize-winning technology called a 'laser frequency comb', and is published in this week's issue of Science.

Fermilab physicists discover "doubly strange" particle
imagePhysicists of the DZero experiment at the U.S. Department of Energy's Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory have discovered a new particle made of three quarks, the Omega-sub-b (Ωb). The particle contains two strange quarks and a bottom quark (s-s-b). It is an exotic relative of the much more common proton and weighs about six times the proton mass.
