Thumbs down Jury Duty

so, the last two days of my life have been spent commiting my time to what i like to call "jury duty purgatory". basically, i have been sitting in a white room, twiddling my thumbs and waiting to see if i was going to be selected to be a juror on a criminal trial. booooooring!

i learned quickly that they dont pick you if you just act smart, becuase they dont want someone with brain on a jury, they want manipulatable minds that can be easily molded to think what they want it to.

two funny things i actually heard in court:
"....as the judge i must insist that you are all completely impartial unless i tell you otherwise..."
potential juror: "it happened in other country"
judge: "is that a forign country?"

what are some other hypographers experiences with jury duty?

Can't help you there, mate - we don't have a jury system. But that was a classic!

Re: Jury Duty

Having a smart jury is actually a good thing if the defendant is truly innocent. That means their case has a higher probability of being properly analyzed and their case overturned or thrown out...

If the defendent is guilty, then a dumb "steerable" jury is good.

Re: Jury Duty

I havent been called for jury duty in the short time that I have been 18, and suspect it to be many years before I do. I might say from my perspective now that it would be a rather interesting experience, but Im sure that would change after sitting around for a few days deprived of Hypo!
