Running

I was just wondering who here runs on a regular basis?
The cross country pre-season started today, and I have practice in the morning an the evening.
Anyway, I love running! It makes me feel so good to just get out there and push myself to my limits.
Does anyone else run? Why do you do it? Does it make you feel good, and if so, why?

Re: Running

I run! It makes me feel great!

I just run to keep fit, but it's also great fun. I participate in races occasionally, but have set my eyes on running my first marathon next year.

I've never been a very good speed runner so I don't have great times etc. But since I have asthma, running virtually keeps me off medication.

Re: Running

I love to run! I wake up at 5 almost everyday, and go running b4 school! I used to just run for the fun of it, but now I am training for the army. I am applying for a 4year army rotc scholarship for math and science, and I have to take a physical fitness test in about 3 weeks.
I have never ran for school or in a race. I want to run track this spring, I guess I will see what happens!
GOODLUCK MB! and have fun!

Re: Running

I ran since I was a child. I ran track in high school and college, mostly short and long sprints. I would do distance in the summer and tag along with the cross country team in the fall to get in shape for winter season. I continued for years after school, but eventually slowed and then stopped, after almost getting hit by a car. I would still run some road races and some tracks meets with buddies for fun without a lot of preparation. It was killer at that time, but years of conditioning lasted for many years after I quit, allowing the body to push through.

Nowadays all that mileage sort of gives me a pain in the side of my right leg, near the knee, when I run. So I have diversified into other areas of low leg impact fitness such as swimming, hiking, exercise machines, etc.. I smoke about a half pack of cigaretts a day. This affects my wind. Nevertheless I had always trained for anaerobic conditions, so I don't need full lung capacity to do what I do.

I remember in high school I made up this work out. When you run your heart goes up, so I figured I would try to get my heart rate as fast a possible so I could condition my heart to be used to running on red line. So I would sprint up 100 yd hills with leg weights. I was able to get my heart to 250 beats/min before feeling nauvea. Don't try this at home without a doctors approval. He will tell you, you're nuts. I guess I was at the time. But I doing sports R&D on my human machine.

I'll swap with ya! I live on the top of a hill so all of my runs have to end with a climb...
