Re: Hypography: What is it to you?
Why I Joined the Hypo Gang
[Volume I; Book I; Chapter 1.0]
Men of my generation have a common problem: we don't have very many male friends to talk to. The very few I have are like barrels of cool spring water in the middle of the Sahara. There is no substitute. Conversation with women, though wonderful in its own right, cannot replace the need of a mature, educated male to share his thoughts, insights, questions and feelings (gulp!) with another of his ilk.
So, I am here. This is my French Riviera, my "best friend" place, my sanctuary of the mind, my reprise of my college and dormitory days. This is where I can crack jokes, talk about Socrates and Einstein, learn something, teach something, refine and polish an idea until it shines. And all in the company of like-minded men and women.
I get to show off sometimes, which is perfectly appropriate behavior among guys. I get to piss off sometimes, which all guys understand is a necessary part of being a guy. I get to stand on my soapbox and defend the faith, which all guys long to do, one way or another. And when I'm proven wrong or stupid, ... HEY!, I'm among guys! It's cool.
I get to come in out of the rain in Hypo. It's a stupid world out there. There are ogres and trolls and Ghengis Khans. Conversation is the soul of life, just as love is the heart. And not 1 person in 10 out there can converse worth a boodly flogging damn. Truth is trampled and used as a toilet by the Great Unwashed, and it gets depressing to have to cross foils with them every day. This is my refuge, my oasis, my round table of hale fellows well met.
And if, by some small chance... some infinitesimal probability... I may have contributed something of significance to someone, then my time here was not wasted.

What concerns me is not the way things are, but rather the way people think things are.
