In the movie "2001 - A Space Odyssey", there are several scenes where the characters eat. In one scene the food is liquid and served through straws, in another the food is colorful, but looks like swatches on a painter's palette.

However, the future of food no longer seems to be a bland collection of flavor-added tea bags. Staple food like rice and crops are likely to remain the most important stuff we eat.

Researchers are trying to find new solutions to the world's demand for food. But media around the globe has stirred debate by focusing on the negative aspects of genetically modified food.

This week Hypography skips the burger and tries to find out what really lies ahead in the food fair.
